The Story

Charleston Falls is a 37-foot-tall plunge waterfall in Bethel Township, Miami County, Ohio. The Charleston Falls Preserve is one of the 18 units in the Miami County Park District.

The rock strata are the same as those of the ever-popular Niagara Falls. Because of that, some call it Miniature Niagara.

The water originates from several underwater springs several miles upstream. The water exits the plunge pool and travels a mile to the Great Miami River. The Great Miami River flows into the Ohio River west of Cincinnati. Then the water that originated underground in Miami County flows to the Mississippi and into the Gulf.
